Brighton City Overview

Brighton is a seaside resort on the south coast of England, between the English Channel and the stunning South Downs. Brighton established itself as a fashionable seaside resort in the mid-eighteenth century after the Prince of Wales (later George IV) began to patronize it. Brighton and Hove joined together to form the unitary authority of the City of Brighton and Hove in 1997 and was awarded city status in 2000. Brighton is about 45 miles (73 km) south of London and has also been called "London By The Sea". Featuring a broad range of tourist attractions, unique cultural scene, vibrant nightlife, numerous festivals, and an eclectic mix of antique shops and designer boutiques, Brighton has lots to offer visitors from the UK and abroad. Popular tourist attractions in Brighton and Hove include the Royal Pavillion, Brighton Museum and Art Gallery, Palace Pier, Duke of York's Picture House, Brighton Dome, Penny Arcade Museum, Withdean Stadium, Brighton Marina, and Hove Lagoon. Being one of the top seaside resorts in the United Kingdom, Brighton boasts a vibrant atmosphere and nearby Hove tends to be more sedate and relaxed. Brighton is also is well known for being the ideal location for business and corporate meetings, events or conferences, and home to the Corn Exchange and the Brighton Centre - which regularly accommodates more than 5,000 people.
