More about the Citation I
The Cessna Corporation first announced its Cessna Fanjet 500 design in late 1968. After several test flights coupled with multiple design iterations and improvements, the aircraft was renamed and introduced as the Cessna Citation I. This private business jet was granted FAA certification in late 1971, and would become the base for the Citation line. The Cessna Citation I is classified as a short-to-medium range business jet. This private business jet quickly gained a name for itself in the industry for its performance qualities and low operating costs. The Citation I also features a quite cabin design, a retractable tricycle style landing gear system, a full lavatory, and small galley area, keeping customer comfort in high priority. The Cessna Citation I was designed with the business professional in mind, combining affordability with versatility to render a comfortable and reliable system.
Production on the Citation I started in 1971 and ended in 1985. 680 aircraft have been built so far.
Key Features of the Citation I
The Citation I is usually configured to seat 6 passengers in two-pilot operations. If the aircraft is single pilot certified, an additional passenger may be accommodated. The cabin measures 12.7 feet in length, stretches 4.9 feet in width, and reaches 4.3 feet in height. Eight windows encompass the cabin, contributing to an airy, roomy feel for the passenger cabin atmosphere. The Citation I has a total of 57 cubic feet of baggage capacity available to accommodate your travel needs.
The Citation I comes standard with a cantilever low-wing design coupled with a conventional tail section, which utilizes a swept vertical stabilizer. Each of these airfoils have a tapered planform for improved efficiency and handling characteristics.

The Cessna Citation I comes equipped with two Pratt and Whitney turbofan engines, either utilizing the JT15D-1A model or the JT15D-1B model. Each engine is rated for 2,200 pounds of thrust. With these engines, the Citation I needs only 2,930 feet of runway to take off and 2.017 feet of runway to land on a standard day. The Cessna Citation I is capable of maintaining its long range cruise speed of 322 knots at its maximum certified altitude of 41,000 feet. If you are looking to spend less time in the air, this business jet can fly at its maximum high speed cruise velocity of 349 knots at an altitude of 37,000 feet. The Citation I has a wing span of just over 47 feet and, when combined with the thrust reversers, allow this private jet to operate out of short runway airfields previously unavailable to aircraft in its class. The Cessna Citation I has a range of over 1,300 nautical miles, rendering many available options for your business venture.
Though the Citation I was originally outfitted with analog instrumentation, this private jet has been updated to incorporate the latest digital equipment. The Citation I avionics package typically includes dual Collins ADF 60’s, dual Collins VHF comm radios, dual Collins VIR 30 navs, the Sperry APZ 500 autopilot and Bendix RDR 1100 radar instruments.
